Coffee Glossary

Coffee shops can be a confusing and intimidating place, especially if you don’t know the terms. I’m going to try to help out by defining some of the common terms that trip people up. Hope it’s useful!

Brew Guide: Blue Bottle Dripper

Blue Bottle’s pourover dripper might be the best, most consistent pourover brewer on the market. It’s a flat bottom brewer with a single hole designed to control the flow rate of water passing through the coffee grounds. This means that the grind size of the coffee doesn’t quite matter as much as it does in other drippers. Don’t misinterpret this to mean that grind size doesn’t matter. It still does. However, with something like the Blue Bottle, there’s some forgiveness when your grind is a little short of dialed in.

Beginners Guide to Great Coffee

I love coffee so much that I created a website about it just for fun! I want to help others enjoy it too. To the end, I think its important that we start at the beginning. If you’re interested in exploring the world of coffee, and would like to have a better experience in your cup, then you are in the right place.

Aeropress Old Fashioned

This is a fun and refreshing change of pace drink. Part coffee, part cocktail, but still appropriate for work!

Brew Guide: Inverted Aeropress

The great thing about the Aeropress is how easy it can be to use, and how forgiving it is when you don’t get a recipe quite right. This makes it the ideal choice for traveling and for beginners just getting into coffee. I use mine most often as the brewer in my Travel Kit that I use in offices and hotel rooms across the country.

Make Great Coffee on the Road with this DIY Travel Brew Kit

I travel frequently for work, and have spent many years subjected to office and hotel coffees that just plain bum me out. I finally decided that I had had enough and set out to put together a traveling coffee setup. This is the result of that quest.

Brew Guide: Hario V60

I bought my clear plastic Hario v60 for $6 to take on a camping trip in 2011, and now years later is my go-to brewer. It is one of the best brewer options for any coffee with lighter body and fruit notes. Lately I’ve been using a cloth filter from CoffeeSock instead of the typical Hario paper filters.
